Darme is a South African based brand founded in 2003 by goldsmith & artisan Marius Koen. We specialise in commissions of any nature.We design casual to extravagant dress jewellery & wooden designs handmade from exotic locally sourced wood to the traditional precious stone & metal  jewellery intended for very special occasions like engagements & weddings. Darme prides itself on the fact that all pieces are handmade to the highest standard from quality materials. Finding inspiration from nature, ethnic tradition and fantasy our pieces are timeless & are intended as beautiful gifts for all occasions.

Artist Marius Koen was born in Goodwood, Cape Town, grew up in Johannesburg and went to the National School of Arts where he learnt the basics of becoming a goldsmith. Now after numerous years in the business and a private studio, Marius brings you Darme jewellery. Based in L’Agulhas in the Overberg district, he makes durable products made out of gold, platinum, silver, even metals like titanium and wood. He calls himself a jewellery-engineer and makes not only rings and neck pieces but sunglasses, watches and bangles, some out of ebony and olive wood. All designs are open to interpretation and clients may want a personal touch like a secret message inscribed within a ring or certain stones, like birth stones set within a piece and Marius is sensitive to making a long lasting piece that is special and significant to the person it is being made for. Here at Darme we want our clients to be as involved as the goldsmith in the creative process of designing that unique piece of jewellery. Ideas are discussed in the privacy and comfort of our studio over a leisurely cup or glass of refreshment. Darme was established to collaborate the works of goldsmith Marius Koen and his partner, fine artist Claudette Koen to bring unique handcrafted jewellery and art to one arena. Specialising in jewellery made from the purest materials, creating unique and interactive pieces. Works of original fine art are for the most part done in oil on canvas but many other materials are also used\. Darme finds inspiration from nature, ethnic tradition and fantasy. Our pieces are timeless & are intended as beautiful gifts for all occasions. Our studio the perfect retreat where the client is welcome to stay at our on site guest house and be a part of designing that bespoke piece of jewellery in unspoiled surroundings. There are shuttle services available from the airport but ideally to take full advantage of exploring the area, we would recommend hiring your own transport.
